Gaul volunteers to fight Spyro one-on-one, engaging Spyro in battle in the mountain area, until the battle unexpectedly took them down to another floor of the mountain. However she attacks Gaul instead, only to get caught and thrown away like an afterthought. When Spyro reaches the Well of Souls, Gaul renders the purple dragon useless of his elemental abilities and orchestrates a fight to the death between Spyro and Cynder.

Once Cynder was brought before him, Gaul proclaims that nothing will prevent the Dark Master's return and reassures Cynder that Malefor would either take her back for being a faithful servant to Malefor or kill her. After Spyro and a repentant Cynder are abducted by Skavengers, Gaul's Ape minions attack the Pirate Arena and forcibly takes Cynder to the Well of Souls. In The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night, it was Gaul who launched an attack on the Dragon Temple and later placed a bounty on all of the dragons including Spyro.

Gaul led his armies to the temple and had all the eggs destroyed, save from one hidden away from him and his armies by the Fire Guardian Ignitus, and another one that Gaul took away.įully aware that a Dragon was needed to set Malefor free, Gaul hatched and raised Cynder, whom he turned into an immensely powerful evil dragoness by exposing her to Malefor's evil energy.Īfter Cynder succeeded in opening the Convexity Portal, but was defeated and returned to normal by Spyro, Gaul bases himself on the Mountain of Malefor and takes the matter in hand preparing for the return of his master on the Night of Eternal Darkness. Several years before the course of Spyro: A New Beginning, Malefor ordered Gaul to attack the Dragon Temple during the Year of the Dragon, to prevent the birth of the Purple Dragon who could stand against the Dark Master. He wants revenge for his people against the Dragon kind and wishes to use Malefor's power to do so, as like the rest of his kind, he has no true loyalty to the dark Purple Dragon, even insulting his species to Spyro at the Well of Souls. Gaul is cold and collected but arrogant, hateful, violent, vindictive, merciless, greedy and power-hungry.

His face is covered in scars and his right eye is replaced by an emerald, evidencing his fierce warrior's past.
